Today’s full-service hospitals can have anywhere between a few thousand and sometimes up-to 50,000 pieces of movable medical equipment; 90% of which require preventive maintenance every 3, 6 or 12 months. With a hospital campus often covering multiple square kilometers, it’s estimated that more than 20% of biomed technician time is spent just looking for missing or misplaced patient care resources. And, often when the equipment is finally located, the assets often can not be serviced since they are found to be in use or have been designated for immediate patient deployment.
Asset Management: Track and TRace
The Elpas Asset Management Solution is designed to supplement the traditional security measures already deployed to reduce shrinkage of critical high-value mobile medical assets. Elpas does this by capturing real-time location, time/date and motion information about the protected asset and then alerting security when illicit asset tampering or unauthorized asset movement is detected.
Due to the ease of implementation, Elpas Active RFID/RTLS Asset Protection Solution is the most cost-effective way to protect thousands of medical assets in challenging, indoor/outdoor medical environments.
Elpas Asst Management Solution can be cost-effectively scaled to enable different levels of real-time location visibility and security: from zonal to room level, to sub-room level accuracy. Elpas solution utilize battery-powered, triple-technology RF/IR/LF tags affixed to the assets that are to be protected and a fixed Ethernet/Wi-Fi compatible infrastructure comprised of RTLS RF Readers, IR Readers and LF Exciters strategically installed throughout the facility all managed by Eiris Visibility & Security software.
Eiris client stations display the real-time locations of the vulnerable assets requiring first-responder assistance, graphically overlaid on the relevant floor plans and provide interactive screens for managing the lifecycle of the received asset alert. Eiris also supports robust ‘Alert Notification Options’ that delivers the correct alert, 24hrs-a-day to the right security responder no matter where the security person happens to be.
The Elpas Asset Management Solution can also facilitate the rapid location and status check of medical assets in need of preventative maintenance or servicing. In many cases equipment is not maintained on time since assets cannot be found, leading to non compliance and quality of care issues. With Elpas any tagged equipment throughout the hospital campus can be located according to preventive maintenance pickup schedules, and automated maintenance alerts can also include equipment location and status.
The Elpas network of IR/RF readers and exit point LF exciters can easily scale to support thousands of networked devices and 10s of thousands of asset tags. This scalability is achievable due to the distributed intelligence and routing capabilities available in LON networks. In addition, thousands of 3rd party sensors and actuators may be added to the network enabling limitless integration possibilities.
- Lowers acquisition costs
- Reduces lease expenses
- Trims asset shrinkage
- Increases asset utilization
- Boosts staff productivity
- Enhances work flow
- Reduces equipment hoarding
- Advances JCAHO maintenance & calibration compliance
- Cuts risk & litigation exposure
Real-Time Inventory - Online and printed reports provide exact inventory levels, broken down by location. Levels of inventory of specific equipment types may be monitored improved efficiency. The Eiris Quota alert may be programmed to alert staff when actual inventory levels exceed or fall below designated par levels.
Back-End Integration - Supports real-time integration with CMMS or other Inventory and Maintenance software systems via industry standard protocols. Current location information may be added to preventative maintenance work orders.
Asset Security - Alert as asset nears exits. Escorted assets are allowed free movement through choke points and exits, allowing authorized personnel unrestricted use of equipment. Static assets can be set to alert on movement, providing additional security for valuable assets.
Utilization Monitoring - Elpas Asset Tracking Solution can be used to monitor the utilization of your assets. These reports may be used to streamline your inventory and equipment rotation.
Easy to Use Software - Real-time graphic interface provides easy asset location as well as ad hock reports.
Highly Scalable - System can support additional assets and tracking areas.
System Reliability - Distributed local control ensures that assets remain protected even when network segments or the RTLS Host Server are offline.
International Safety Compliance - CE, FCC IC, compliant; generates no EMI interference.
- Improve BME department workflow by knowing the real-time status, availability and location of the equipment to be maintained thus eliminating foot intensive searches for assets that are not available for maintenance.
- Enhance patient care through improved asset utilization rates.
- Facilitate ISO audits, industry guideline compliance as well as mitigate the risk of legal exposure resulting from malfunctioning patient care assets.
To help identify your needs, plan your solution and implement on schedule, VT professionals along with our Business Partners will work closely with you and your staff every step of the way. Together, we cab tailor an Elpas Equipment Maintenance Solution to integrate with your legacy systems and businesses processes, and then assist you through the entire implementation process - arranging for and managing the installation, training personnel in the proper use of active RFID and handling virtually all other aspects of deployment and startup.
The Elpas tracking solution seamlessly integrates with other Elpas RFID security applications for monitoring and tracking personnel and patients as well as mobile assets. The system can be expanded to add active Elpas personnel tags, hands free access control, hands-free asset escorting, panic alarm and more. The same LON infrastructure of Elpas readers, LF exciters, servers, clients and software is used for both asset and personnel tags.
By initially implementing Elpas asset tracking and then adding risk mitigation and security functionality, medical facilities can realize a single unified approach for optimizing asset usage, ensuring patient and caregiver security and enhancing hands-free entrance/exit alerting. Add to this unified RFID platform strategy the ability to integrate with legacy enterprise management platforms (such as, patient care, workflow & staff scheduling, billing, asset maintenance, security and billing systems) makes single unified RFID platforms both technically and financially feasible for the majority of healthcare facilities.
